 Hi JK Parents!

We had a delightful week celebrating with our Gingerbread theme!

French fun with numbers!

Literacy/Social Emotional:

The children practiced writing Mm/s this week and read "The Cool Bean story, about the cool kids at school who are also kind and helpful.  We practiced modeling different scenarios and what we should do when they happen,  and how to be the coolest kid, which means being kind.  We are learning blends in reading groups ie the sh sound and the ch sound.  We are using "Stretchy Snake" to stretch out words as we sound them out, careful to listen for each letter sound.  We practiced flash card sight words and underlined words with our witch and monster fingers as we read through our RAZ books.

We played Sequence (board games) and worked on our numbers and letters/letter sounds and blends.

The children made cards for Blankets of Home: A Movement of Kindness https://www.blanketsofhope.com/

JK made colorful cards with kind messages and tied them to blankets to deliver to a local homeless shelter.  We talked about needs versus wants and having compassion and what that means.

"M for Macie!"
Fine Motor:

We collaborated to create classroom collages for our party!  I love watching the children come together to plan and execute a colorful story and illustration.  They loved writing and decorating cards for their parents for the holidays.  The children made gingerbread scenes using scratch rainbow paper.

Math & Science:

The children worked on Tens Frames as we solved whole group story problems.  We practiced writing teen numbers and used manipulatives for one to one correspondence while counting and grouping.

Congratulations to Claire and her beautiful family on the newest member of the Rondinelli household, baby Annie.  We can't wait to meet her!

If you see any sales on tissue boxes over break, we are out in JK and would love to replenish our supply.  Our scented markers are also a bit dry, but we have tons of regular markers to use.

I am wishing you all a lovely break and know I am incredibly thankful for your children and being able to spend each day with them.  This is an amazing class and I love teaching them.  Lila and I will be in town for the break, and spending time ice skating, visiting friends, baking, and relaxing with Charlie.

Lots of love,

Ms. Massey
