Happy Spring!

We welcomed Ms. Cooper into our classroom this week, and are thankful for her assistance.  Please say hello when you are at school.  She will be with us each day until the end of the school year.

Science & Math:

JK is learning all about plants and growing things, as we planted bean plants and grass seeds and learned the parts of plants.  We talked about photosynthesis and the life cycle of plants and used the white board to sequence cards from seed to plant.  Each JK Bunny made their own flower and labeled the parts.

JK Bunnies practiced skip counting by 2, 5 and 10's.  We used manipulatives and a number poster to practice one to one correspondence.

Literacy & Fine Motor:

We have been reading many non-fiction books about plants, along with Tops and Bottoms, as we learned which part of the plant we eat.  We took turns separating vegetables into categories of root vegetables, flower vegetables, tubers, etc.

We are refining writing Xx's this week and hunting for words that begin or (mostly) end with Xx.  Xylophone is a bad example as it doesn't make the Xx sound but instead belongs in letter jail for making the Zz sound, so we used examples like Xray, fox, box, tux etc for examples.

Reading groups read Spring themed guided readers.  We are talking about the beginning, middle and end of stories and creating our own stories as a whole group and independently.

Social Studies:

Thank you to Inaya and her mom, Madiha, for teaching us about Ramadan.  We loved learning from you and painting mosques.  The children loved seeing the beautiful clothes and were incredibly engaged for the books you read!  What a treat.

Happy Birthday to Keshav!  We loved celebrating your birthday with you.

We were so happy to meet baby Isla this week-Mila’s baby sister.  We have baby Annie-Claire’s new little sister and Isla.  What a wonderful school year of welcoming sweet babies into the world.  ðŸ’•ðŸ’•

Have a lovely weekend!

Ms. Massey

PS.  Please send in paper towel rolls, as we need 50 for a project!
