Happy 100 Days of School from JK!
Math:
The children had such a wonderful time preparing and showcasing their 100 items in the 100 Day Museum! What amazing creativity we saw. They were so proud of their creations and were able to practice many different counting exercises in the middle of all of the fun. We used snowflakes to count and all practiced writing numbers from 11-20, and one to one correspondence when counting the days of the month.
Language Arts:
In reading groups this week, the children broke into pairs after our initial guided reading, and practiced reading to each other. This provides them the opportunity to practice their language skills, reading, negotiating, taking turns, and general sharing of ideas and assisting each other in literacy development. Our reading buddies also came to read with us. We surprised them with a performance of our February song we have been practicing and also with Valentine's Day cards we made for them. It was so sweet to see the prideful look on each JK child's face as well as the happiness they brought their buddies. It's the simple gestures sometimes these kiddos need to feel loved and appreciated!
Science and Fine Arts:
The students worked on creating snow globes and experienced the phenomenon of adding particles that are lighter (glitter) to water and baby oil. Seeing (a photo of) themselves floating inside a snow globe sparked many different conversations of what would happen if you were trapped inside a snow globe and what you would want to have in there with you. "Maybe some goggles or flippers so I could swim around and still see all of you walking around the room..."
The children began decorating their Valentine's Day mailboxes with different patterns and numbers of items, counting and sorting as they chatted about their favorite treats.
Mr. B always has amazing activities to increase our gross motor skills, core strength and balance!
Another birthday celebrated in the JK classroom. Our babies are turning 5 and growing up before our eyes!
The month of February is flying by. Please remember to bring your shoe box covered with white paper to school tomorrow so your child may decorate a mailbox for our party (kids only) on Tuesday. We have a short 2 weeks, with parent teacher conferences on Friday and President's Day Monday. Spring Break will be here before you know it!
Have a wonderful week!

P.S. A reminder regarding attendance procedures from the office:
ATTENDANCE
We are working on making sure our attendance records are accurate every day. Please help us with this by following the absence-reporting procedures:
When a student is ill and/or will be absent from school, the school must be notified by a parent or legal guardian. To report your child's absence, call 847-866-6055 or email attendance@ roycemoreschool.org. Parents may wish to email teachers directly, but please be sure to send the message to the attendance email address above as well. If your student’s absence is not reported in this way by 9 am, Bea at the front desk will be calling home. Please be aware that she may call, even if you have already notified your teacher (but not emailed the attendance email).
