 Hi JK Parents!

What a fun week it’s been, taking care of our seeds and learning about frogs!

Literacy& Fine Motor

We went on an incredible Spring Scavenger Hunt and loved enjoying the beautiful day outside and writing about the items we observed. We completed our fabulous JK Auction item, painting and filling a tree on canvass with the birds made by each student.  I am so excited to enjoy the evening with (most of) you April 30th. Circus Circus!  Please be sure to purchase your tickets if you haven’t already.  We will have a wonderful time.

We learned about the poison dart frog and completed frog booklets, choosing a favorite frog to replicate. The children took turns teaching the class about all they have learned.  We looked at maps of South America, learned new vocabulary ie diurnal, habitat/rain forest, extinct, preservation, and many others. We read non fiction books, and learned that the poison from these frogs is used as a medicine that is stronger than morphine.  The insects in their natural habitat cause the production of poison, hence the reason that poison frogs in captivity/as pets are no longer poisonous.  We discussed the difference between venomous and poisonous, and compared North American frogs to the rain forest and poison dart frogs. We also compared frogs to toads.

We practiced skip counting as a class while passing a ball.  They are getting pretty quick at numbers to 100!  They all need to continue to practicing number formation as the tricky teens, and a few others are still inverted or flipped.

JK created flower collages with puffy pieces, wetting them to make 3D sculptures.  They practiced writing spring words.  We are working on the "sh" and "ch" sounds and making our way through popcorn words.  Fry's list of 100 is a great list to work from, as they memorize the words that cannot be decoded.

JK completed self portraits for April, paying attention to facial features and adding details to their clothes and shoes as they studied their reflections in a mirror.

Have a lovely Easter or Passover for those who celebrate, and a lovely long weekend!  I cannot believe there are only six weeks left and they will all be Kindergarteners!  I am teaching Water Works, Little Chefs and Manners and Chemistry and Crafts this summer (first couple of weeks school is out) if it works for your schedules. These can be taken in conjunction with Little Griffins camp if you want to do half days for any of these and have them join Little Griffins for the other half of the day-all seamless transitions.  Little Chefs fills quickly each year so sign up now if interested.
