Hi JK Parents!

We continued our Dr. Seuss theme this week and loved reading many more stories and playing games.

Literacy:

We read about the Sneetches and talked about inclusion in JK termimology, and practiced responding to different scenarios we then role-played.  We read the story "Gertrude McFuzz" and talked about "how much is too much?"  We practiced writing names in our sign-ins, adding last names and addresses after mastering first names.

Math & Science:

We made "Coud Spotters" and peeked through the window on our spotter to determine if clouds were Cirrus, Cumulus, Altocumulus, Stratus or Cumulonimbus.  The children painted their spotters and then attached different pictures and descriptions of clouds.  We learned about the different clouds and what they mean, regarding the weather to expect and introduced the water cycle.

We celebrated another fabulous five year old's birthday!  Happy Birthday Eva!

Goody Bags!  Thank you, Eva!  What a fun party!

Problem solvers and helpers, completely unprompted!

JK continued rolling dice and writing sight/popcorn words.  This is a great activity to work on when they have finished other "work" and need something fun to do while waiting for friends to finish activities.  They love working together on their sight word books!

We played a rhyming game with green eggs and flipped them with a spatula as we sorted them into word families.  They worked in pairs to solve each one.

Fine Art/Social Emotional:

JK Bunnies made their very own Sneetches and covered them in rhyming words, following Dr. Seuss's style of his many rhyming stories.  The children created their own Gertrude's by attaching colorful feathers to pictures.  We talked about what it means to be "greedy" and not happy with all of the wonderful things we have. We played a great game of "Would you Rather?".  We love to introduce scenarios and hear the thought process as they make a choice.  Would you rather be 15 feet tall or 2 inches tall?  Why?

The children made leprechauns for their March calendars.  They are the cutest little leprechauns ever.  Scissor skills, writing skills, and laughing the entire time!

It was a short week but we have had a wonderful time and learned so much.  Please continue to grab strips when you pick up (or we can send home) and write book titles for our cat's hat!

I loved sharing your children's accomplishments through our parent-teacher conferences.  Thank you for all of your support as it was nice to learn about the amazing things you are hearing at home!  This class is the most kind group of kids and parents and I am looking forward to this next part of the school year as we run with our learning and become even more cohesive as a classroom community.  It's so great I will see you at dismissal!  We are also planning a get-together for a parent visit to the classroom.  Stay tuned...  :)

Have a lovely weekend!
