Hi JK Parents and Friends!

We began our Kindergarten Ready theme this week, and will be visiting Kindergarten next week!  We have been reading stories in preparation for next year, and talking about all of the fun things the students will experience in Kinder.  We talked about how it's always a little scary to start something new, but how they have been learning all year so they will be prepared in the best way.

We have been learning punctuation this week, and writing sentences using either exclamation marks, periods or question marks at the end, and looking at different times to use commas in writing.  Our morning message provides a great canvas for the class to search and find what is missing or incorrect.

We are using Handwriting Without Tears to practice sign ins, and are remembering to always write beginning from the top down.  Inverted letters are typical at this age but we are practicing so the letters in our name are always correct and in one line.  Their handwriting has come so far.  I always excited to see the progress this time of year.  :).

The students wrote about what they will do this summer, using speech bubbles.  I love that they are all looking forward to the beach and pool, or being outside!  It's fun to see them drawing in their free choice time and including speech bubbles!

The students came up with a hair salon this week and have said they are going into business to be stylists for famous movie stars.  They wrote an entire board of services with prices, along with a menu they serve at their salon, including a grown up and kids menu.  It was an amazing project based learning exercise 100% created by them.  I love JK!

Be sure to sign up for Popsicles and Pizza on the auction site.  It's open now, and Mr. Bailey and I are hosting a party with just 15 spots for purchase.

Thank you to both Sawyer and Claire's dads for being spectacular mystery readers!  They loved every minute of it!

Each day the children have been repeating positive affirmations as a group.  The average person's internal thoughts are 60% negative, so to combat this we are all developing the healthy habbit of positive thoughts.  If you believe it, it will be.  :). Just ask my daughter about her entire lifetime of hearing about how wonderful she is at Math.  She is now wonderful at Math.  If we expect amazing things from children they don't ever disappoint.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Ms. Massey
