Good Morning JK Parents and Friends!

This week was all about Valentine's Day and Love in JK!

Jayce mastering the art of building with same sizes to crate the most stable base!  We LOVE STEM activities!

The most beautiful fruit tray ever for our party!  Thank you Heather/Sawyer!

Math & Science
We made Snow Ice Cream and studied snow crystals.  They are fabulous at Brain Pop!  The children are incredible at making predictions based on information we have gathered.

We practiced counting by 10's and for some students 5's.  We made sticky notes for their desks to remind them of the 10's transitions that are tricky to get over, ie., 39, 40.  or 79, 80.

Literacy
The children hunted for letter sounds while reading, looking for blends and digraphs like "ch", "ph", "th".  We compared letter sounds in U, W and Y, as those are the trickiest letters to differentiate for most children at this age.  They confuse the W and Y sounds often, and struggle with the U sound within words.  We played a game called, "Silly Sentences" where we created sentences by locating nouns and verbs and then connecting words.  I loved reading how the Donkey baby jumped over the crooked tree...It's a fun way to practice reading words and then putting them together to make a story.

Fine Motor
The children made Valentine's Day Mailboxes by cutting, coloring and gluing decorations.  They made Valentines for their friends and family.  They painted hearts to use as frames for a Valentine for their parents.  We created multiple animals using play dough.

Social Emotional
We practiced telling friends what qualities we like most about them.  We talked about physical qualities but also qualities and attributes you cannot see, like forgiveness and giving encouragement.

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day Party, and we cannot thank you enough for the beautiful decorations/stickers, plates, cups, napkins (love them!), the amazing treats and supplies, and yummy cheese and crackers and candy.  You are all incredible generous and the children loved celebrating!  They were so sweet looking at each Valentine and taking their time passing them out.  They loved giving something to their friends.

We are busy finalizing our assessments/Report Cards for upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences.  You will receive information soon to sign up for a Zoom Conference.  I am amazed this time of year how far they have come in their development and learning.  It makes my heart grow as I know they have worked so hard and are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.  Their handwriting and literacy are so fun to compare from the first of the year!

Have a lovely Valentine's Day and restful President's Day!  See you on Tuesday.  FYI: We will be sending rest time things home this week.  We haven't used them much with the early dismissal two days a week now.

We sorted, graphed and counted candy hearts!  Win-Win as they love games and they are learning while playing!
