 Hi JK Parents!

"Run, run, as fast as you can!  You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!".

We have been reading about giving as well as Gingerbread Bears, Babies, Boys and Girls!

Math and Science:

We began the week by conducting a Science Experiment.  We made predictions first of what would happen if we submerged a paper gingerbread cookie in water.  We had three different times to leave them submerged, so made a hypothesis about each.  We left the first one in for 10 minutes, the second one in for one day, and the third one in for four days.  We recorded our observations as a class and talked about how water works to break down paper.  Each student constructed and refined a bridge using multiple materials, including paper cups, tape, popsicle sticks, legos, blocks, pegs, etc.  to keep the Gingerbread Baby safe from the fox.  I loved watching them work through the process of trial and error.  They are amazing engineers!  Some even decorated their bridges with glittery pipe cleaners to include the "A/Art" portion of STEAM!  We love STEAM challenges in JK.

Literacy/Fine Motor:

We have been writing Gingerbread stories with three parts, a beginning, middle and end, and also wrote what we would do to "Make the Grinch Grin"!  I loved that they would give the Grinch hugs and toys and lollipops.  Our Grinch on our classroom door has a heart that grows when we are kind.  It's gotten bigger but we want it to be huge before our party next Friday!  We practiced our beginning, ending and vowel sounds as well as letter formation and line spacing.  We colored and cut and pasted Gingerbread cookies into stories, placing them in different places on the page.  Scissor skills are improving, but they all need practice.  We decorated paper Gingerbread cookies with glitter, bows, stickers and pastels.  We are reading our RAZ Kids books, and some BOB books, along with our classroom library of Gingerbread stories.  We are working on the "ch" sound as well as the letter "Jj".

We have been working on a holiday gift too but it's a surprise!  :).

Have a lovely weekend!  Charlie is begging for walks every hour and 45 min so I am destined to be soggy all day.  :).
