Hi JK Parents!

JK Bunnies are learning about St. Patrick's Day and working on writing stories about leprechauns.  They decorated a leprechaun trap all week long to try to catch that pesky leprechaun, but weren't able to.  We engineered a fulcrom to hold up the trap.  We love desigining things and testing ideas.  That little guy left a mess in our classroom along with some treats for us.  We lured him in with Lucky Charms and green milk.  We loved finding his tiny hat he lost.  Maybe next year we will catch him.

Literacy:

We are concentrating on the letter "Ww" this week and making lists of words that begin and end with "Ww".  It's a tricky letter as many kiddos switch the "Ww" and "Yy" sounds, so are making lists and hunting in books to improve recognition.  We played a Pete the Cat sight word game, along with our money game and Guess Who?.

Math & Science:

JK had STEAM challenges this week as they worked together to build bridges for the leprechaun!  We love to incorporate the "A" to include Art in our Steam challenges as well so colored rainbow bridges. We are learning math symbols and improving on writing the symbols and numbers, as we pair off to solve word problems.

JK has been learning more about states of matter and turning liquids into solids by heating them.  Solids have a definite shape so that helps JK students remember which items are solids or liquids.

We learned about mixing an acid with a base to cause a small explosion as we experimented with "exploding pots of gold" on St. Patrick's Day!

Fine Motor:

The children constructed pots of gold with paper chains in rainbow colors and wrote about what they hope to find at the end of the rainbow.   It's amazing to see them learn the order and replicate it on art projects.  JK Bunnies drew self portraits using colored pencils, while looking at their reflection in the mirror.  The children made cloud rainbows and wrote their colors for letter formation practice along with "Ww" words.

Have a lovely weekend and wornderful Spring Break!  I will be taking the train to Kansas City to see my family and friends. I will miss "my kids" and look forward to hearing about all of their adventures!
