JK Snow Angels!
This week we have been studying the amazing author, William Steig. We have read many of his books and imagined our way through magic pebbles and bones and an amazing mouse dentist that traveled to Africa to help an elephant with painful molars! The children have loved listening to and predicting their way through the stories, imagining what they would do if they traded places with some of the characters.

Music and Movement:
We began learning a new song we hope to perform for you in December. We have used our rhythm sticks to sound out syllables in our names and to copy beat patterns. We also use the rhythm sticks as we go on adventures through the forest and make everything from pitter patter gentle rain sounds to loud thunderstorms!

Math & Science:
We continue to sort and classify items, as well as sequencing different hats with numbers to 30. We are building towers with patterns and practicing our counting using manipulatives. Our roll and dice game will spill into next week as well, as we roll dice and draw a body part for each number.
Literacy/Fine Motor:
We made December calendars using pre-cut trees and gingerbread people and shapes to glue and decorate with markers and glitter. We recited a poem about giving and attached that to our calendars.
Our Senior students (Griffin Buddies) came to our classroom to make holiday cards with us, we will be giving to sick children in the hospital. It was a lovely exercise as the class loved getting to know the "big kids" who were so kind and careful with the JK children!
We practiced our sign-ins using grass, sky and fence color coding for a point of reference for where to begin writing letters. Sometimes this is confusing to children but can also be helpful to have a familiar reminder for where to begin.
We began talking about snow crystals and temperature to freeze water. We will continue to study snowflakes and the science of weather.
We also created winter hats using different textures. The children used inventive spelling to write descriptive words about their hats.
Please bring extra socks to school as snow finds its way inside even waterproof snow boots.
