 Hi JK Parents and Friends.

We are talking about what it means to have good manners and also learned to set a table!  We talked about and role played everything from visiting a friend's house for a play date to accepting a gift for your birthday that you already have.

We are continuing learning blends and digraphs this week, practicing spelling words that begin or end with sh, th, and ch.  We are learning and using the reading strategies that help with decoding words, including stretchy snake, eagle eye, chunky monkey, lips the fish, flippy dolphin and tryin lion.  We read with witch and monster fingers and hunter for th, sh and ch words.

In art class, we began a two part project using pastels and water colors.  Mr. Matt is an incredible talent and the children love art class!

The children played the cupcake math guessing game and practiced writing their numbers as well as simple addition and subtraction with story problems.

Dr. Glader came to visit us and talked about making the transition to Kindergarten.  We are reading books about feelings, and talking about how to feel better when you are feeling scared, angry, sad, shy etc.  Kid President is the best at phrasing  things in the most direct and simple way for JK children to understand.

We loved our Mystery Reader this week!  Zamir was so happy he cried happy tears!  They love seeing their parents/grandparents on the big screen in the classroom!

When the students become teachers they learn with amazing recall and accuracy!

Jayce's amazing ant hill.  It's difficult to see but he used a stick to hollow out the sand to allow the ants to tunnel into their colony.  :).
Mr. Bailey's creation in the sand.  :). There's a reason we are JK teachers!

We love writing on our white boards and wrote sentences to practice ending them or including punctuation!  The students decorated placemats with a place setting on them to help them remember when they are at home.  I loved all of the different colors and patterns they used!

We visited the Kindergarten classroom and learned all about Monster Money and Fun Friday!  Mrs. Smith was loads of fun and read The Book With No Pictures!

We ate lunch outside and played games.  The children learned to play BusyTown and loved racing with the pigs to make it to Picnic Island before the pigs ate all of the food!

Have a lovely week!

Ms. Massey
