Hi JK Parents.

We had a busy, short week in JK, creating snowy scenes with snow people, self portraits that have a stained glass illusion, and writing speech bubbles about what we do if the wonderful Thing 1 and Thing 2 visited our house!

Math & Science:
The children played a measuring game, creating and extending complex patterns and then counting and writing numbers.  It was fun to see who had the longest pencil, inchworm or ruler!  Our centers are designed in a very intentional way, where they are playing as they are learning so much.

Literacy:
Writing speech bubbles gave us a chance to practice dictating stories, using inventive spelling, and scaling our letters to fit in a small space.

We stamped, traced and wrote the letter "Oo" and practiced the different sounds "Oo" makes in words.  We read our "Oo" book and did the chant as we located different "Oo" words in the story and in our classroom.  All of the tricky vowels are a focus as we are nearing the last part of JK!  These children are going to be incredibly prepared for Kindergarten.

Fine Motor:
Stained Glass self portraits encouraged fine motor as the children peeled each piece of tissue paper and placed it on their self portrait, then painted with water to bleed the colors to create a bright twist to our drawings.

I love putting out different materials to see what they will all create, which resulted in amazing winter scenes with snow people.  Gluing, cutting, coloring, placing sticks and cloth squares, and using all sorts of craft materials to collage together encouraged the most original pictures!

We practiced our rhyming as we introduced Dr. Seuss.   The messages are incredible and I love this theme.  Please feel free to let me know your favorites and I'll be sure we cover those!

Have a lovely weekend!

Playing Crazy 8's was amazing practice for social skills, negotiating, numbers, colors, patience, and focused engagement while following rules!

French Class created "Mon Jardin Dj'Amour", after singing and saying the words, they wrote them and created beautiful flower gardens!
