 Hi JK Parents!

Ms. Massey dedicated her drawings to Mr. Horne, upper school teacher, who actually met Dr. Seuss aka Ted!
Literacy/Fine Motor/Social Emotional:

We are finishing our Dr. Seuss theme this week and are learning more lessons...beginning with The Lorax.  JK made finger puppets of The Lorax and acted out stories for a puppet show.  It was so fun to hear the students with their "Lorax voices" talking about speaking for the trees.  They each performed with a buddy.   JK Bunnies chose their favorite Dr. Seuss character and drew it while looking at an image.  I love watching them work on replicating art.

JK stretched out words to isolate each letter sound and identify beginning and ending sounds.  We are hooked on phonics!  :).

Some children tried our "fish in water"...one fish two fish, red fish blue fish!

We hunted for and wrote "Vv" words and read Alphatales "Vv" book and recited the chant together we end each letter book with.

Science and Math:

We learned about the presidents on coins and completed coin books, as the children studied the back of  coins as well as the front to become familiar at first glance to identify each.  We are learning about solids, liquids and gas and discussing the properties of snow, ice, vapor, water.  We used a hot plate to speed up the process of melting the snowman made of balls of ice.  We talked about evaporation and sang the water cycle song.  Once that song is in your head it's there to stay.  :).

Literacy:

We watched Horton save Whoville as he protected his speck, and then wrote about what our speck would say to us.  JK also talked and wrote about how they can help our world.  I was so impressed with their suggestions to, "clean the trash out of the ocean" and many other suggestions about cleaning up our planet.

Have a lovely weekend!

Ms. Massey
