 Hi JK Parents and Friends!

Happy Mother's Day to you all!  I cannot believe the incredible group of moms we have in JK!  I experience the amazing jobs you are doing each day to raise wonderful human beings.  :)

This is Lila when she was three.  Oh how I miss those big bows and sweet hugs and kisses!  Now it's soccer fields and sports gear!  Thank you to all of you who make me a better mom, as I witness the kind and caring children you are raising.

Math & Science:

We are studying Bees this week and learning how amazing these insects are!  We completed a Venn Diagram comparing bees to ants, and talked about the characteristics/features of each insect.  We studied a real honey comb from the hive, and practiced making hexagons like the bees make. We learned about the smoker the bee keepers use to make the bees sleepy so they are able to safely extract the honey.  We also learned that a bee keeper's suit is white so that approaching the hive they will not be mistaken for a predator by the bees, like a brown deer or bear etc.

Literacy:

The children practiced writing letters W and X, and hunted for things that end with the letter Xx.  We remotely completed a guided drawing of a bee, including their head, thorax and abdomen.  We read and then retold stories and practiced hunting for sight words.

Fine Motor:

We completed portraits of our moms using colored pencils for Mother's Day.  The plan was to have beautiful potted flowers to accompany those but this week had other plans.  :). Continuing to roll with it!  We colored Mexican flags for Cinco de Mayo, talking about the celebration after the Mexicans were outnumbered 2:1 by the French soldiers.

Social/Emotional:

We had a honey taste test, and used descriptive words to talk about the things we were feeling or tasting.  I loved watching their faces as they tasted and talked about the "risky" and  "super, duper sweet honey"!

Have a lovely week!
