 Happy Halloween!

We had an amazing time celebrating Halloween!  The students painted their pumpkins to decorate our classroom!  We loved Carnival and playing all of the games upper school students played with our class, and trick or treating all of the fun booths.  Our class party was amazing with our spooky punch with dry ice and all of the amazing treats you brought.  Thank you!  The costumes were adorable and they loved parading around Roycemore and hearing everyone oooo and ahhhhh.  We played games, danced and sang and bounced around the room with balloons.

The children made paper art of witch's stockings and shoes, and decorated them with silver sharpies.  They made vampire treat bags and lots of fun stencil drawings using cut outs and scented markers.  They painted ghosts and many other Halloween creatures with water colors.

Math & Science:

We had "Spooky Science" with the AP High School Chemistry class, and decorated ghost rockets to launch outside.  It was such an amazing experiment.  We used plastic film cases and Alka Seltzer with a little water and after securing the lid we watched the gases build until the rockets launched!  Pop!

We learned about the wedge and experimented with different wedges and levers/scissors using play dough.  We learned that a wedge diplaces two parts, like when an ax chops through wood.  We also learned about levers and used a type of lever, a catapulte, to launch things.  We weighted different levers with coins to balance them on top of the fulcrum, and learned that the closer the point of contact is to the fulcrum the easier the item is to lift.

We learned about Bearded Dragons and had a visit from one that lives at Mr. Stanley's house!

Literacy:

We are looking for the letter "Gg" and put it in letter jail for the times it makes the "Jj" sound!  We made a list of Gg words and hunted for Gg's as we read in our groups.

We wrote stories about The Grove Field Trip and illustrated them,  We are using inventive spelling and some students are learning that the letter "Yy" sometimes makes the "Ee" sound.  We love to hear them dictate stories and sound out words.  We use "Stretchy Snake" to slowly say the word outloud and innunciate each sound.

Have an amazing time Trick-or-Treating!
